The winner of this G2 event over 1200m at WFA was as dominant as ever seen in the event with Imperatriz scoring by an eased down late five and three-quarter length victory. The Australian bred 4yo mare clocked 1:13.89 and was recording her ninth win in twelve starts of which this was her second G2 success and goes along with two G1's and two G3 wins. The utterly dominant win by this mare has scared all comers and scattered the challengers far and wide, as nothing that ran today could make up the margins of defeat. This mare has been lethal up to a mile, so anything past that gives hope to others but she is much stronger this season and 2000m could well be in her frame such is her dominance. She raced sixth wide (with cover) on the Heavy10 rated track and moved up fourth wide still across the top before striding up to lead at the 300m and then she deadset shellacked them. Imperatriz is the dominant force early this season at WFA and more G1's await the mare up too and including the mile at least it does appear. Butler ran a good second and started a clear second favourite at what was his first Blacktype outing and at WFA too. The 5yo gelding has won five of his ten starts and all of them have come on Slow or Heavy footing. He raced midfield the outer then moved up fourth turning for home before reaching a very distant second at the 150m. Third home was a fresh up Australian bred in Demonetization at $38 that ran home very strongly from back and wide to get third the last 5m although he was beaten all up just under seven lengths. The 8yo has won at G2 and G3 so was up to this grade no doubt and he handled the wet ground (four wins on Heavy footing) too even if he has won five faces on Good footing as those came in 2021 and as far back at 2018. Fourth home was Darci La Bella, the stablemate of the second finisher Butler, and she ran a distant third favourite. The 5yo mare settled back then improved seventh turning for home before reaching fourth at the 150m and she fought on well but was beaten almost seven lengths. Next home was Rose 'N' Power that was wide before taking a clear lead and then once headed at the 300m by the eventual winner she was swamped late and got beaten just over seven lengths. The 5yo mare was ridden by the apprentice Elen Nicholas and came from the outside stall though the first and third runners home drew gates ten and twelve respectively so this was in fact an advantage. Sixth home was the fourth favourite Tavi Mac that raced fourth then third the outer and moved up second turning for home before weakening. The 7yo gelding was beaten over eight and a half lengths at the line. Seventh home and at $49 was New York Jazz that had been racing since February and today was having his sixteenth start this campaign. The 7yo gelding settled down last and ran on wide out through sheer residual fitness to be beaten just over eleven lengths. Next home was the Australian bred Winning For All that was wide then went up third deep across the top before weakening after the overland effort told and he got beaten a dozen lengths. Field Of Gold was next home and looks and is an improver despite being beaten almost thirteen and three-quarter lengths as he was warming up very late after sitting back and wide. The Australian bred was also ridden by the apprentice Kozzi Asano. Aero De Paris finished tenth beaten almost fourteen and a half lengths but was found to have bled so his racing future is in jeopardy. The 8yo gelding was ridden by the apprentice Joe Kamaruddin and after the obligatory three months stand down he may have run his last race as Summer racing will be in play when due back and he has never won on Good ground. The rest of the field got beaten almost fifteen lengths and up to almost twenty-one and a half lengths. Imperatriz gave this field a deadest galloping lesson and they cannot beat her at 1400m or likely a mile after that too in New Zealand. Giving her weight (2kg at WFA) is a bridge too far as she is beating this lot ridiculously easy and is on the way up whereas many of these are getting too old to be a genuine force at Group level. Imperatriz has scared off all of her rivals here and it does seem only her own age and sex could throw up a challenger or two for the dominant sex in this country.
