An unsound but big and strong plus fast sprinter in Adventador won this Listed event by a whisker after being taken on in front then kicking clear only to just hold on. The six year-old gelding last won a race in October 13 (a Ratings 85) at Hastings but today was just his fifteenth start and fifth win so everything is a bonus nowadays. It was his first start at stakes class and after speeding out to lead from a good gate he was taken on at the 800m and across the junction to the course proper but shook that rival off (it finished fourth) at the 300m. He was set for a comfortable win then Designated Driver popped off from behind him the closing stages and dashed home to lose by a nostril flare. Designated Driver had also only won four races coming into this and probably should have won this Listed event after settling back on the inner. The key is the ground he saved from the junction until the field joins the course proper and then getting up in behind the leaders the run home without expending too much energy. The Dead4 rated Trentham track is always dubious in sprint races (chute events) as the footing for the first half of the race is nothing like the second part. The winning time of 1:07.91 is bionic on a track of this supposed rating but see earlier regarding chute times here as they simply do not pass muster internationally as credible. The race prior, a Ratings 75, clocked 1:08.63 or just over four lengths inferior to the Listed feature sprint. Iamishwara has been a busy horse this season and in fact since debuting here three years ago as a juvenile with today being start number forty-nine. He ran on well under 56.5kg and was the first runner home not on the minimum of 53kg. In what turned out an unusual race for many reasons including how many bigger names and more proven commodities flopped it is hard to gauge this as being a true sprint guide for the bigger races to come. Eight Schillings showed his new stable have him back near his best again when fourth after attacking the winner in the middle third of the race and was carrying 55kg. Fifth home and warming up well last under 59kg was Scapolo and he is but a wet track away from another win. Flower Bomb disappointed considering the mare had the drop on the first two throughout but it was a strange riding tactic to angle centre track the run home when no evidence in earlier racing showed the inside was off. Mark Du Plessis if he did it on his own accord made a howler as in a sprint race you cannot give away anything when they are flying along. Barbaric was another unusual ride and current premiership leading jockey Danielle Johnson drifted back and wide, which was fair enough, but then was still there across the junction and the run home. This big sprinter got going okay late and is a must include next time out if not ridden in such no hope lanes throughout. Ginner Hart was weak considering the run he got while Special Draw stopped but she can be forgiven as got deadest slaughtered wide and working throughout. McLaren plugged on and Touche was horrible but he got the big shuffle back early and seemed to despise it. All in all a result that looks no guide for the G1 sprinting to come in January for a myriad of reasons even if the winner Adventador when fit and well is a fast leader.
