This G1 mile under WFA for all comers saw the always the groomsman and never the groom Wyndspelle finally get his pinnacle ring and Blacktype bride. He had prior to this outing been tried sixteen times at G1 for six placings but today showed that good things come to those that wait. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were sixth (two-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), ninth (four-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), led (two-off the inside and two lengths in front), fourth (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fourth (three-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), second (four-off the inside and a length from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), fifth (two-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader) and fifth (three-off the inside and two lengths from the leader). Wyndspelle is not a regular winner and today was in fact just his fourth win from thirty nine starts and he clearly adores finishing second with ten of those totalled up so far. The 6yo entire was tardily and last away today but recovered quickly the inner to be sixth and in a solidly enough run race worked off near the home turn and straightened up fifth before surging into second at the 250m. A hundred metres later he was in front and instead of finding one better as usual he comfortably held all his rivals out to win by almost a length and a half in 1:34.66. Shadows Cast raced third mostly then came up wide before the home turn and led at the 300m only to headed by the winner at the 150m and was unable to go with him. True Enough was his usual consistent self and he has not run a bad race since the 2017-18 season. He raced fifth mostly and was still there at the 200m but kept coming in a sustained manner to be third at the 100m. Incredibly since December 2018 all the way to March of 2020 he would never miss the top three in fourteen straight runs and that would include wins at G1, G2 and G3 as well as three G1 placings. Supera ran an even money favourite and was hampered at the start settling back the outer and being the widest runner second last across the top to the home turn. She produced a good finish and lost no ground on the third finisher True Enough but fourth was where she finished and the mare got there with 50m to go. Tiptronic after blundering at the start was second last away and last the inside early before settling down eighth the fence and worked off and ran on from seventh turning for home. Vernanme was tardy then booted through to fourth the inner and came off and reached third turning in and was still there at the 200m. He battled thereafter the final 100m to finish sixth beaten almost five and as half lengths. The rest got beaten almost seven lengths and as far as thirteen lengths. This was a G1 strength line up overall and was run at a decent enough clip certainly for the first half of the race. Two G1 winners would come out of this afterwards in True Enough and Tiptronic.
