The winner Only Words gave her trainer his first Blacktype success with her narrow win in this Listed event having won her maiden fresh up prior with some authority. The winners and where they came from in race order were third (three-off turning for home and a length and a half from the leader), led (two lengths clear and one-off the inside), fourth (six-off the inside and two lengths from the leader), third (six-off the inside and half a length from the leader), co-leader (eight-off the inside), fifth (twelve-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (one-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) and led (six-off the inside and a length clear). Only Words made a big run wide from well back and came up second deepest and fifth turning for home before surging into the lead at the 250m. The filly looked set for an easy win but the maiden filly Atishu really launched at her late and was just half a neck in arrears at the line. It was a courageous win by the filly that had won fresh up prior her maiden in emphatic style, on slow footing, so she revelled in the heavy underfoot conditions today and clocked 1:17.47. She recorded her second win in succession this season and her first at Blacktype by a small margin but both her wins have come from the back and wide in the running. Atishu is still a maiden filly despite being heavily backed late in this and her turn must come soon surely. She jumped well but like many lost her place as numerous runners went for a suicidal early burn and in fact the filly ended up back on the inner and held up when worked off turning for home. She had to move runners out of the way for clear air at the 250m and 150m before really coming home hard the closing stages. Her rider Darryl Bradley got suspended for three days for his over-aggressive effort. Atishu was a luckless second on debut beaten a short head and today at Listed level wend down half a neck. Miss Dixie, also a maiden filly like the runner up, ran on powerfully the widest runner out after being slow and last away. She was twelfth and the widest runner turning for home but unleashed to be fourth at the 200m and actually reached second at the 150m before having to be content with third at the 50m. The filly was beaten a length all up and thoroughly deserved her Blacktype placing. Fourth home from the rear trio on settling was Tannahill and he was actually last turning in but came home well three-off from ninth at the 200m. He ran on angling wider all the time was only beaten less than a length and a half and is a dividend payer in waiting. The leader on settling Gentleman Jack was swamped late after still being a length ahead at the 200m only to be headed at the 150m and stop to fifth at the 100m. He really did weaken badly late and was almost six lengths from the winner at the line. Mogador ran on fairly closest in while Laced With Gold after an awkward start recovered closer in the whole time and was third across the top. She battled late but was not entirely disgraced. Alice Tinker raced very wide fourth or fifth and came deeper turning for home only to be interfered with at the 250m and 150m. She was a forgivable miss. Power On got going again late wider after being in reverse across the top. Flash Warrior caused some grief at the 250m then got sandwiched out of the race at the 150m so is a forgive. The conditions of the track and the fact that so many went silly early set this up with the finish all being swampers wider out bar a game Tannahill, which ran on well from last on the home turn closer in. Whether any of these are A-graders is doubtful at this stage of their preparations.
