Calvin McEvoy has provided an update on the 2025 Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup champion Half Yours.

The co-trainer of the five-year-old has revealed that the gelding has softened up excellently from his fantastic 2025 season and he will start training again in the coming days.

“He's spot on, he's really, really good,” McEvoy told SENTrack and RSN’s Giddy Up.

“We went and saw him a couple of days ago, he's softened up lovely, which is really nice to see as he went to the paddock a very, very fit racehorse.

“He’s going to have another four or five days out, and then he'll come back in.”

McEvoy also revealed the stayer’s race targets for his next preparation which could include another Queensland winter campaign.

“We'll consider running him in a race like the All Aged on the 18th of April. It's 1400m, so it's going to be well short of what his best is at,” McEvoy said.

“But it's a good kick-off point to aim towards and then we can consider races like the Hollindale (1800m), the Doomben Cup (2000m), the Q22 (2200m) to then freshen him back into a spring in Melbourne.”

In terms of what Half Yours’ Spring Carnival targets will be, the gelding will likely go after five major Group 1s, including the Melbourne Cup and even potentially the Japan Cup.

“His likely targets in the spring will be the Makybe Diva (1600m), Turnbull (2000m) into the Cox Plate (2040m),” McEvoy revealed.

“For sure, (we’ll target the Melbourne Cup). Look, we'll see what weight he gets and everything.

“We'd love to consider a Japan Cup (2400m) too. We couldn't do it this year as he'd been up racing for so long, he had a couple of grand finals. But who's to say that we don't try and give it a little bit of consideration next year.”

Half Yours is currently $11 with Sportsbet to go back-to-back in the Melbourne Cup, while he is $10 to win the 2026 Cox Plate.
