John O’Neill’s crazy Caulfield Cup claim
By SENTrack
Prominent owner John O’Neill has made a massive call for this year’s Caulfield Cup.
O’Neill owns plenty of horses with racing behemoth Ozzie Kheir and reckons they have a few who are primed to run well in the 2400m handicap on October 17.
He rates both Zahrann and Saint George as good hopes as well as a recent purchase with star trainer Ciaron Maher in Point Of Law.
O’Neill suggests he might even have the Caulfield Cup trifecta on his hands.
“Here’s a ra-ra for ya - I reckon the horses I’m in with Ozzie and one with Ciaron - we’ll run one, two, three in the Caulfield Cup this year,” he said on SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.
“I don’t know what order they’re going to run but I reckon we’ll run one, two, three.
“Zahrann will be one. Saint George will be another, and Point Of Law.”
O’Neill has seen Point Of Law’s odd shorten dramatically since it was first included in Caulfield Cup markets.
“I did talk about Point Of Law the other day when it was $126. See what price it is now? $21 (Bet365 and Sportsbet),” O’Neill added.
Gareth Hall questioned O’Neill on Point Of Law, previously trained by John and Thady Gosden, who was purchased from King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Hall: “Why would the King sell it if it was any good?”
O’Neill: “You don’t think it’s any good?”
Hall: “Well, we don’t know. Gosden is hard to get one off though.”
O’Neill: “I’m telling you, I think we’re going to run the trifecta there.
“Ozzie has bought some very nice horses. He’s not in Point Of Law though, that’s with Ciaron.”
Hall: “I’ve heard a good push for the Australian Bloodstock horse, Wine Dark Sea.
“You’d hate for them to beat you.”
At the moment, Zahrann and Saint George share $11 second favouritism behind Green Spaces ($10) with Sportsbet while Point Of Law is at $21 for the Caulfield Cup.
