Jack Turnbull, Ciaron Maher Racing’s National Assistant, joined Gareth Hall on SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up to give an update on the Maher stable’s chances this Saturday.

From the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes to the Kingston Town Stakes, the Maher stable has many favourable chances.

Custom (Race 6, Caulfield)

Turnbull instilled confidence in the four-year-old mare who is three weeks between runs, returning after an impressive win at Caulfield.

“If she pulls out her best, she is capable, but it is going to be hard to emulate what she ran to last start,” Turnbull said.

“But she is on the up, she has drawn reasonably well and Browny (Ethan Brown) gets along with her.”

Custom is currently priced at $7.50 to win the How Now Stakes on Saturday with Sportsbet.

Middle Earth (Race 7, Caulfield)

Turnbull provided insight into the goals and expectations for this start of the seven-year-old gelding ahead of another Melbourne Cup preparation.

“Just to finish closer, I think we’re right on the money with where he’s at and where he needs to be at,” Turnbull said.

“I think he is in great form, but obviously the trip’s a bit short so he gets winkers on. He will be ridden very comfortable and if we are beaten less than five (lengths) that’ll be a big tick.”

Middle Earth is currently $61 with Sportsbet in the Group 1 Underwood Stakes at Caulfield.

Zahrann and Saint George (Race 8, Caulfield)

The Maher stable takes a talented duo to the Naturalism Stakes over 2000m at Caulfield on Saturday.

Hall queried Turnbull on who he thought was a better winning chance.

“We take a good hand, but I’d have to stick with Zahrann just drawing a better barrier,” Turnbull said.

“The pair of them have been galloping up together and it’s been a very nice watch just to see them come up.”

Both horses are currently headlining Caulfield Cup markets, and this race will provide the pair another piece of work to keep progressing.

Zahrann is currently $2.90 favourite with Sportsbet, whilst Saint George is the main contender at $5 with Sportsbet for the Group 3 Naturalism Stakes.

Tennessee Bound (Race 9, Caufield)

Whilst stablemate Warnie is firmly in the market, Tennessee Bound is another of Maher’s horses that could run well in the Group 1 if he can get a run.

“He is currently an emergency,” Turnbull said.

“He is a horse that thrives off that pace and pressure and it’s a quick turnaround… He is obviously in good form, so it is a great opportunity for a Group 1 race.”

When asked by Hall if he would be surprised if Tennessee Bound won the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes if she did get a run, Turnbull echoed confidence.

“No, it wouldn’t only because of the weight and if Caulfield is playing Caulfield then she could be in front threw the way and hold on, because she’s in good form.

“I hope she gets an opportunity to put her hand up because she deserves to at that weight she will be given.”

Tennessee Bound is currently priced at $20 with Sportsbet as Emergency 1 for the Group 1 Rupert Clarke Stakes, whilst Stablemate Warnie is shorter at $9.50 with Sportsbet.

Piggyback, Juja Kibo, Mr Monaco (Race 6, Randwick)

When ranking his best chances in the Kingston Town Stakes, Turnbull ranked the three in this order:

“Piggyback, closely followed by Mr Monaco and Juja Kibo.”

This race will provide an interesting look into the climate of stayers heading towards the Group 2 Metropolitan over 2400m and the Country Cups circuit, however not limited to this class.

The trio are currently priced as follows with Sportsbet: Piggyback $9.50, Juja Kibo $9.50 and Mr Monaco $15.

Gringotts (Race 8, Randwick)

Group 1 winner Gringotts will return to the track second up to take on the short-priced Autumn Glow.

“We are very confident… I mean we need to slay a giant up there (Autumn Glow),” Turnbull said.

“But the horse is in great order, and we saw that from his return.

“We are very confident in our horse and although we have got a big task ahead of us, I’m sure he will run really well.”

Hall asked Turnbull whether Nash Rawiller believes he can beat Autumn Glow.

“I think you have to, and he does,” Turnbull said.

“I mean if you don’t have confidence, you have got nothing.

“(Nash Rawiller) has stuck with him, and that is always a nice sign.”

Gringotts is currently priced at $9 with Sportsbet in the Seven Stakes this Saturday.

Turnbull was asked the trademark stable mail question: “If I gave you $100 what would you do with it this weekend?”

“I am going to stick with Saintly Dancer, I think she is our best for the day in Melbourne, and I think she’s progressive and onwards for 1000 Guineas (1600m),” answered Turnbull.

Saintly Dancer runs in Race 4 at Caulfield over 1400m and his currently boasting a price of $7.50 with Sportsbet.
