Expert form analyst Mark Hunter has taken a look at the both the Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m) and Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on Saturday.

He has analysed every horse in those races, runner by runner, and believes he has found us the winner!

Underwood Stakes

Hunter is with the Chris Waller-trained Lindermann, referencing his form against his competitors in this field and finishing ahead of Autumn Glow in the Queen Elizabeth last autumn.

“I don't think they (beat him),” Hunter told SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up.

“I think he's a really good horse. I think I'm right in saying that he's raced against every horse in this race except for Pinstriped and Cosmic Crusader, and he's beaten them all, and beaten them fairly comfortably.

“I think he's getting better with age. Last campaign, it took a really good Aeliana to run Lindemann down in the Ranvet.

“And then Lindemann did what very few horses can do next time in the Queen Elizabeth - it gave Autumn Glow a start and ran past it. I don't know that any other horse in this race could do that.”

However, the form analyst revealed there are three queries with the seven-year-old, but admitted they shouldn’t be an issue.

“The three queries with Lindemann is it's been to Caulfield twice and gone no good. That was three years ago, maybe it's an issue, but I'm prepared to forgive it,” Hunter said.

“Also hasn't got Nash Rawiller riding it, who knows the horse inside out. Maybe it's an issue, but we've got Blake Shinn, you could argue he's Melbourne's version of Nash Rawiller in front, so I don't think that's an issue.

“Someone else raised a concern about how Lindemann's form's better on big tracks, and you go back through the Gold Coast, the Doomben failures. So maybe that's some concern, but I still think Lindemann will win.

“It'll lead, it doesn't get pressured because it runs along at a good speed, the track will be firming up by now, it's fitter for that last run… I'll be very surprised and I'll be poorer for the experience if Lindemann gets run down.”

Hunter is with another Chris Waller runner in the second Group 1 of the day, Angel Capital. The form analyst even declared the Yulong horse as an “each-way special.”

“This is the race for the ultra-consistent Angel Capital. This is his race, he's an each-way special here,” exclaimed Hunter.

“Let’s go through his last five 1400m dry track runs.

“The All Aged Stakes up in Sydney, he had no luck at all and went fantastic.

“Probably the one disappointing run of them was the Orr Stakes when he couldn't get near Jimmysstar, but he had every chance, he got beaten at length, he passed Evaporate - that was an end of prep run, so I reckon he went below his best there.

“In the Rupert Clarke last year, congratulations to those that backed Sepals, but Angel Capital got out with 50m to go and should've walked in.

“And the two before that when Clinton (McDonald) trained him were two wins over 1400m dry.

“That's his absolute sweet spot, 1400m dry is his go.

“Last time he was on the wet, the wet doesn't suit him, he was given an ordinary steer, I'd be completely forgiving of that.

“He's drawn well. Assuming Regal Award jumps, it's the leader in the race, they'll run along, I think he's drawn perfectly.

“This is his day Angel Capital, he's an each-way special.”
