Racing NSW announced on Thursday morning that Peter V’landys, their long-serving Chief Executive, will leave his role at the end of his current contract on 30 November 2026.

V’landys served as Chief Executive of Racing NSW since 2004, driving growth in wagering revenues, which led to incredible returns to owners and participants in the NSW Thoroughbred Racing Industry.

He was also a key force in attracting new and younger audiences, thanks to the introduction of new concepts, such as The Everest.

SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up host, Gareth Hall, reflected on this news, exclaiming that V’landys’ legacy “will live on forever.”

“When you have a look what he's been able to do in Racing NSW, it is unbelievable. His legacy will live on forever,” Hall said.

“He got the Race Fields legislation, which was a massive game changer, not just for Racing NSW, but for Australian racing.

“He got New South Wales racing through equine influenza, during the COVID period as well.

“The prize money levels since he's been in charge (has increased).

“And one of his greatest legacies, of course, will be The Everest, and the way that he reshaped the spring in New South Wales.

“His other major strength and what made him so successful was his ability to get the best possible deals done with the New South Wales government, which allowed him to pour the prize money back into New South Wales racing.”
