NZ Racing tips: Jayne Ivil & Mark Claydon's Saturday best bets (26/09)

New Zealand form analysts Jayne Ivil & Mark Claydon have given their best bets for racing in NZ this Saturday.

On SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up, Ivil had a look at Hastings, while Claydo's are still to come.

Race 3 Open 1300m

7 – 2 – 6 – 3

War Princess posted a smart win fresh up on the track a fortnight ago, she is unbeaten second up and has a terrific winning strike rate, saluting in 6 of her 12 race day outings. She has the benefit of a senior rider on Saturday, and the blinkers come off as she steps out slightly in trip. Tactically this will be interesting, there is plenty of speed on paper (including her), but she has won from off the pace, so having some versatility might work in her favour. The Scunner has been impressive in two recent trial wins and flies fresh up; he looks the danger.

Race 6 Group 2 Hawkes Bay Guineas 3YO 1400m

3 – 11 – 1 – 8

Old Fashioned resumes off the back of a smart trail win back on the 15th of September, clocking the quickest Open 1000m trial of the day. The Proisir Colt was a winner on debut back in June over 1200m and was put aside with spring stakes targets in mind. Given his scope the 1400m looks like a good kick off point and the ace barrier is no concern given he has tactical gate speed if they want to use it. Genie is a filly I have a lot of time for; she has improved with each race day outing. Her draw is a concern; she will either have to work early to find a position or settle at the rear of the field.

4 – 3 – 13 – 1

Young Jackson is second up after finishing 3rd fresh up at Te Rapa on the 13th of September. His maiden win came second up over 1400 metres, so stepping up to the 7 furlongs is an assist, along with the improving track conditions. He gets into the race with a competitive weight with the assistance of a 4kg apprentice claim and has shown enough to pick up a win at this level. Los Santos has had a run of second placings and has had genuine excuses in his last two outings. He needs luck to go his way but is deserving of another win.
