La Trice Classic (G3)
I’m Feeling Lucky, who was having her second start since returning to WA for new trainer Lindsey Smith after racing in Victoria, put up a good effort in taking out this Group three race. She began well and soon went to the front. She then travelled nicely at a steady tempo, picked up the pace from the 600m and then fought back gamely when challenged to win well. Fontainebleau raced outside the leader (her stablemate, I’m Feeling Lucky), challenged strongly at the 200m and then battled gamely for a good second, beaten a length. First Affair raced in last place in the seven-horse field, went to the inner on straightening and did well in running on late in the sprint home for third. The favourite Silverstream was last early on, made an early move (due to the slow pace) and then travelled in fourth place (one out and one back) from the 1000m. She challenged on straightening but battled from that point for (two lengths) fourth and is still to win beyond 1400m.
