XXXX - Summer Scorcher (LR)
Battle Hero, who was having his third start since joining the Chris Gangemi stable, scored a narrow but good first up win here. He began well and soon drove through from his inside barrier (1) to lead. He then travelled well, grabbed a break on turning for home and held on after working in the early stages to score in a photo. The favourite Caipirinha had a good trip in third place, went to second at the 200m and kept making ground, failing by only a half head at the post to take second in a very sound performance. Dainty Tess raced in sixth place on the rails, went deeper at the home turn and kept running on well for a close-up third. Second favourite Celebrity Dream was ridden quietly and settled in last place in the nine-horse field, fanned deep rounding the home turn and made good ground for (1.3 lengths) fourth without looking dangerous, returning to this shorter trip.
