Sheen Group Bel Esprit Stakes (LR)
In a three-way finish, the former WA-trained mare Sheidel scored a narrow but good win. She showed good early pace to settle in fourth spot, one out and one back, behind a good tempo, before improving nicely rounding the home turn. She hit the front at the 100m and then fought back well to score in a photo. Girl Guide was eased from her wide barrier (13) and settled midfield, wide with cover. She fanned deep on turning for home and the put in a strong run to just miss in a photo, for a very good first-up second. Under The Louvre raced towards the rear of the field, wide with cover, before improving (wide out) rounding the home turn. He then ran on strongly for a close up third, putting up a smart effort under his 60kg top weight at this first run this preparation.
