Carrying top weight (60.5 kg), he soon moved up deep from his difficult barrier (10) and then raced outside the leader (Double Impact). He worked to the front at the 800m and then kept running along at a solid pace, testing his opposition. He held a clear break at the 200m and then kept fighting back gamely to win well. Payroll raced back in seventh place, on the rails, got through to be fifth on turning for home before getting along the inner to be second at the 150m. She then kept battling on well to hold second, finding the winner (whom conceded her 6.5kg) too good. Man Of His Word raced back in sixth place, one off the rails, improved (deep) approaching the home turn and ran on well for a good third in a promising effort at his third run this preparation.
