Henry Bucks Sires' Produce (G2)
The David Hayes-trained colt Zululand ($9) broke through for his first win in three starts in style by taking out this Group Two event. He was back in tenth place to the 800m, racing a bit keenly in stages. He switched across heels nearing the 400m, took a little while to wind-up but then came with a strong late bid to win, going away, by a length and a half. He looks suited to further and appears to be a smart colt. The favourite Awesome Rock had a wide trip. He travelled about eighth, before improving deep from the 700m. He moved up strongly shortly after straightening, looked the winner when he went to the lead at the 200m but had no answer to the winner’s late run, battling on for a sound second. Marcado was a little slow to move but was ridden hard to recover and he worked to take the lead at the 900m. He then fought back particularly well for a good third after his early efforts. Boomwaa ($5) led early, was checked near the 1000m then raced in second place to the turn. He challenged at the 300m and then kept fighting on to take fourth, beaten two and a half lengths. The lightly raced The Spitfire ($41) kept plugging on nicely for an encouraging fifth. *ANZ
