All Victorian Sprint Final (LR)
Play Master was settled by Craig Newitt just behind the leading group, in about eighth place before switching to the rails side approaching the 400m. He got to the front at the 300m and then kept fighting back gamely for a good win. Lonrockstar was crowded shortly after the start and settled in second last place in the 11-horse field. He followed the eventual winner (Play Master) across to the rails side at the 400m, got right along the inside to challenge at the 200m and fought well for a good second. Hard Romp went to the front, slowed the early tempo (first 600m 35.83), travelling well. He was challenged nearing the 400m and then battled on to take the minor placing after seeming to have every chance. Nearest To Pin raced outside the leader (Hard Romp) and resented the early tempo, pulling hard at that stage. He then battled on quite soundly over the final stages for (1.8 lengths) fourth. Nadeem Lass was back in ninth place to the 400m and ran on well late for (1.9 lengths) fifth.
