Sportingbet Sunline Stakes (G2)
Spirit Song raced outside the leader (Fill The Page) who ran along at a solid pace (first 1000m 59.84). Craig Williams asked Spirit Song to sprint approaching the home turn and the classy filly turned for home with a clear break, which she maintained all the way down the straight to win impressively, taking out the Sunline Stakes for the second year in succession (winning last year on protest). She is a quality mare. Lights Of Heaven, having her second run from a spell, was a distant eighth, one off the rails, before improving wide from the 600m. She got to third at the 150m and kept running on well for a sound second, beaten length and half. Goldslick was about sixth one off the rails and went three wide from the 600m making a good run, improving to second at the 150m then fighting on nicely for third. Bonaria was near last to the 800m, got between runners at the 600m but was blocked on straightening, running on nicely late for a good (3.3 lengths) fourth. Hi Belle was in front of only two in the 12-horse field before improving wide from the 600m and was forced extremely wide at the home turn before finishing on for (3.8 lengths) fifth.
