Black Caviar began well and settled nicely, travelling outside the leader (Karuta Queen) at a moderate early pace. Luke Nolen asked the mighty mare to quicken nearing the home turn and she established a big break on the field in a twinkling before coasting to the post, four lengths clear, to record her 24th win of 24 starts and land her 14th Group One race. Her stablemate Karuta Queen began quickly, went straight to the lead setting an average early pace (first 600m 37.42/final 600m 33.66) before being overtaken by the great mare at the home turn, then holding on well for a good second, beaten four lengths. Fawkner raced in fifth place one off the rails to the turn and finished on well, late, in the sprint home for a good third, beaten four and half lengths. Luckygray was behind the leader (Karuta Queen) to the turn, was a bit flat-footed when the tempo increased, then fought on well for a sound (4.6 lengths) fourth. Linton was last on the rails to the turn, stayed on the rails and kept running on well in the straight for (4.8 lengths) fifth in a pleasing first-up run. Spirit Of Boom was a handy third (but trapped three wide) and pulling due to the slow early pace then struggled in the sprint home for (4.8 lengths) sixth, while Good Ba Ba was last on the outside, went wide at the 600m, then dropped out to finish (8.8 lengths) last in the field on seven. *ANZ
