Tatt's Club Tramway Stakes (G2)
Lucia Valentina, having her first run since third in the ATC Australian Oaks (Gr 1, 2400m) in April, settled near the rear of the 12-horse field and was last on turning for home. She switched between runners at the 300m and then showed a great turn of foot, handling the Heavy9 conditions well, and swept to the lead at the 50m before scoring impressively by a length and a half. She looks set to for an excellent spring preparation. Tiger Tees went to the lead and steadied the pace (first 800m 49.96). He drew clear on passing the 200m and looked the winner but could not hold off the late-closing winner to finish second. Toydini was midfield and wide with cover. He continued to improve from the 600m but was under riding from the 200m before fighting on for a sound first-up third. The ATC Australian Oaks winner Rising Romance was second last to the 600m and then improved wide with cover. She then kept responding in the straight, gradually making ground to finish an encouraging first-up (2.2 lengths) fourth. The favourite Weary missed the start, was last early on, before improving to race midfield with cover. But he was under pressure at the turn and dropped to finish last, beaten almost ten lengths, apparently resenting the Heavy9 surface. *ANZ
