De Bortoli Golden Rose Stakes (G1)
Hallowed Crown maintained his unbeaten record, making it four starts for a many wins and proved he does not need a heavy track to show his best. He began well from his wide barrier (14) and was eased to settle midfield, three wide with cover. He tracked up behind Scissor Kick from the 800m, put in a quick run passing the 300m, challenged at the 100m and finished a bit too well to score well by a long head. Scissor Kick settled just past midfield from a wide barrier (12) before improving (four wide without any cover) from the 800m. He moved up to challenge at the 200m, got to the lead at the 100m and fought back gamely for a very good second after a very difficult trip. It was an impressive performance. Shooting To Win was near last, between runners, before improving (wide with cover) from the 600m. He then kept making good ground in the centre of the track for a very good third. Almalad was a handy fourth most of the way to the turn, got a split to be in a challenging position at the 200m and then battled on quite well for (1.6 lengths) fourth. Nostradamus raced behind the leader, got an inside run at the 300m and then fought on for fifth after appearing to have every chance. Sarajevo was just past midfield, between runners. He got into clear running at the 300m and then kept fighting on quite well for sixth, beaten three lengths. The favourite Bring Me The Maid raced in about seventh place between runners. She looked to be travelling quite well on turning for home but was blocked and did not really obtain fully clear running in the straight before finishing (3.3 lengths) eighth. The second favourite Better Land raced three deep, without cover, outside the leading pair to the turn and then dropped out after working to finish last.
