New Zealand-bred gelding Start Wondering is now unbeaten in two starts for new trainer Chris Waller. Resuming after his smart first-up win at this track over 1350m on 15 August, he was a bit slow to move and settled well back in tenth place. He was giving the leader about eight lengths on passing the 600m, fanned deep on straightening and finished particularly well to grab a narrow but impressive win. He is now the winner of six of his ten starts and looks set for a really bright career in Australia. Three-year-old gelding Paceman worked in the early stages to find the lead and then ran along at a good tempo. He got a clear break nearing the 200m and fought well for a good second, just finding the winner a bit too classy. Le Cordon Bleu was sixth, between runners, got a split at the 200m and battled on well to take the minor placing in a sound effort.
