Hobartville Stakes (G2)
Press Statement resumed and scored a most impressive win. He began well and settled nicely in fourth place, one out and out back, behind a moderate early tempo (first 800m 48.83). Hugh Bowman moved him up (three deep) nearing the home turn, he sprinted to the front at the 200m and then drew away for a very easy win, sprinting home in a quick 33.73. Le Romain, a $21 chance, was sixth one off the rails (tracking Press Statement). He switched out on straightening, went to second at the 100m and fought gamely for a very good second and is an underrated three-year-old. Montaigne settled near last on the rails, got along the inner rounding the home turn, went to sixth at the 200m, then switched out and finished really well for a very good third, looking suited to further. Spill The Beans went to the front, set a reasonable pace and the fought back quite well in the straight for fourth, beaten just under fourth lengths, perhaps being tested by the 1400m.
