Written Up was smartly away from his wide barrier (9) and eased to get a good trip in fourth place, between runners. He got a split at the home turn, raced clear at the 200m and kept battling on in the heavy conditions to win narrowly by a short head at the post. French Hussler was caught wide from his difficult barrier (14) and settled midfield. He improved (still wide out) approaching the turn, got to second at the 200m and continued to run on, only failing narrowly (short head) for a game second. *ANZ
