This G3 Open Handicap over 2200m was run on a very boggy heavy track and only had ten runners disappointingly plus so many runners alarmingly were out of form too. The race and meeting was supposed to be held eight days prior so the depth was always going to suffer and be suspect but it was never going to be a serious G3 field anyway. The track bias was blatant too for on pacers and those near the lead plus in wider lanes with a sixth (albeit not too far away at all) being the numerically farthest away turning in. The winners turning for home on an eight race card were sitting as follows; first, first equal, third, second, first, sixth, third and first. Pacorus had been racing more than a couple of lengths down on his best form all this campaign so far but today revelled in the ground and was always sitting in the first three before challenging across the top and leading turning for home. He drew clear to win by over two lengths and clocked 2:27.85, which was only an eighth length superior time to the last race daylight winner in a Benchmark 65 (normally three to four grades inferior). Pacorus was winning his eighth race in twenty-eight starts and it was his first victory in six outings this campaign and in fact this year. Doiknowyou sat fourth mostly and fought on for second and is just a four-race winner and had scored prior in a Benchmark 75 (normally two to three grades inferior) plus this was his first attempt at blacktype. Wannabefamous was second up so far from seasoned and ran third albeit beaten over four and a half lengths and this 8yo is a proven swimmer but usually takes four or five runs to show some form. Pump Up The Volume carrying topweight of 60kg was running on for fourth albeit beaten six lengths and the 8yo stablemate of the third finisher is a proven mudlark. Maygrove under 59kg was a disappointing sixth beaten over seven and a half lengths but the gluggy footing would not have helped his cause so forgive. The rest got beaten nine and a half lengths to thirty lengths and many were under sufferance a long way out and going nowhere. This field was out of form badly in the main and unseasoned in places and lacking depth plus had many older horses (four of the field were 8yo gallopers). The winner Pacorus was the youngest runner being as 5yo and clearly has the most upside so no surprise he found form again and won easily.
