This G3 1400m for fillies and mares was run on a very biased bog track at Arawa Park track where the eight race winners today turning for home were in order second, led, third, led, led, led, second and led. Nothing ran second or third today in any race from further back than fifth turning for home. This eleven-horse field only was weakened badly by scratchings and more so when the clear favourite Miss Wilson came out late owing to the track being a ridiculous quagmire. It was no surprise then that the first three over the line drew the three outside stalls as they all came down the outer deepest. Tomelilla was back and wide but travelling and swam up menacingly across the top then moved into second and the widest runner turning for home. She took the lead with 100m to go and ended up scoring by a length and three-quarters and ran 1:31.49 for the 1400m. The rising 6yo mare now has won six of her twenty-one starts and today was her first piece of blacktype. Deals In Heels, the stablemate of the winner, also got back and wide but swept up as well across the top and she led turning for home only to be overtaken with 100m to go. This pair were daylight clear of the rest and the third finisher O'Angel was almost eleven lengths from the winner and nine lengths behind the runner up. The three-win mare at her first blacktype outing raced fifth wide then moved up third wide and albeit very distant held that placing comfortably at the line. Underthemoonlight, a noted mudlark, ran third in this last year and today fresh up was fourth beaten over fifteen lengths and not having racing under her belt proved the difference between paying a dividend or not. Bella Court wilted after coming through closer in from sixth to lead at the 400m and Indecision set the pace and weakened once headed by this runner. Rayas was not too bad from last but still got beaten sixteen lengths while the rest were floundering across the top and either staggered or walked home. Flamingo, a dual G3 placed mare, drifted out to last across the top and walked home to finish last beaten almost eighty lengths showing her utter dislike for footing as bad as this. This was not a G3 standard field and once Miss Wilson was late scratched it looked barely Listed grade. The track was so biased and boggy that the result is meaningless bar the blacktype for the first three as it will only be relevant as a Winter result and we are still in Autumn. As in the G3 Cup two races earlier at Arawa Park the mares in this event will sleep well and in fact some may take quite a while to get over such a bog outing. The spelling paddock awaits for many because if the tracks are this bad with a fortnight left of the Autumn then imagine what is coming for the Winter in 2018.
