The winner of this Open Handicap mile under Listed conditions was the 4yo mare Belle Plaisir at $23 and she won it by over a length and a quarter. She sat fourth the inner and under the minimum of 53kg the mare came off and was third turning for home before being second at the 300m then led at the 100m to clock 1:38.16. It was her first Blacktype win (or placing) and it came at her sixth attempt but she does have two G3 fourths in that record. The winners and where they came from turning for home were second (five-off the fence and a length from the leader), second (four-off the fence and half a length from the leader), sixth (eight-off the fence and two and a half lengths from the leader), sixth (eight-off the fence and two and a half lengths from the leader), fourth (six-off the fence and two lengths from the leader), third (three-off the inside and three and a half lengths from the leader) and tenth (twelve-off the fence and four lengths from the leader). Belle Plaisir handled the Slow8 footing well and today she was winning her fourth race in nineteen starts. It must be noted that three of the first four home today carried the minimum of 53kg. Quiz Kid set the pace and looked home across the top and well into the straight before being run over the final 100m. This also 4yo but a male really made the race a finish for those that raced in or near the lead and was ridden by the apprentice Temyia Tairoa. Third home was Hartley that carried 56kg and raced second chasing the tearaway before being third at the 300m and he was beaten just over two and a half lengths. He was ridden by the apprentice Ashvin Mudhoo. Fourth home was Mont Ventoux that raced in the rear duo then came with a strong run too late out wide and was beaten just over three and a half lengths. Fourth home was William Wallace that also boomed home too late from the rear duo on settling and he was in fact widest and still last at the 200m. He was beaten less than four lengths. Sixth home was Mauna Kea that raced ninth then tenth surrounded and ran home well late to be beaten just under five lengths. He was ridden by the apprentice Taiki Yanagida. There was a gap then to seventh and Vent that raced third then fourth before being swamped the last 50m to be beaten over six and a half lengths. It did not help this 4yo mare that her rider dropped the whip 250m out. Next home was the Australian bred House Of Cartier that raced fourth wide mostly and went up third and deep across the top but the effort told the run in. More Wonder came home next after racing back and wide and he was eleventh still across the top and seventh and wider turning for home. The rest got beaten almost nine lengths and up too almost eleven lengths. The way this race was run helped the first three home and the footing assisted the big late runs by fourth and fifth. This was a genuine Listed event as it contained a spread of up and coming 4yo's and some more experienced older gallops too.
