This was a dubious G1 sprint as many in this have been well beaten in stronger fields and nowadays with it being set weights and penalties the race is even weaker. The winning time was a farcical 1:10.34 and the riders of a few in this had the cheek (lack of faith in their mounts is the actual reason) to ease the pace after just 400m, which is downright dangerous and ridiculous in itself being a G1 sprint. In Style the winner knows what the winning post is for as today her nose win was the second time in a row she has got the judges call by the barest margin She has gate speed so takes bad luck out of every equation and today was her seventh success in fourteen starts. The mare was there to be run down after taking a narrow lead at the 200m and her trainer Danica Guy could win the summer G1 sprint double with Tomorrowland at Trentham. Whosyourmaster should have won but rider Rory Hutchings mistimed the paralyzing finish from the back to go down a nostril flare. A tardy start did not help and the race for a Railway was sedately run but to go down that narrowly is heart breaking for connections. Durham Town almost stole the race and was two lips from victory. The ride by Opie Bosson did get the using your melon properly award for the day as when very wide and the leaders slowed he swept around deep and took the front across the top. The tactic was almost perfect and the well-tried and travelled sprinter fought hard the length of the home straight. He has been found out big time in Australia before and adds further proof this was not a true G1 sprint field for depth at all. Trepidation came with a withering and weaving late run for fourth after settling down second last. Her rider Noel Harris is desperately trying to take the world record regarding a G1 win for the oldest jockey from Lester Piggott. Harris would retire the moment he gets it if that is to eventuate this season. Silver Eclipse had every chance and Rudd Awakening was better for her after being disappointing for two seasons. Ryan Mark the boom horse was seventh and beaten just over two lengths after being wide early so was brave but he does look more a miler for next campaign. His trainer has not won a race at Ellerslie and it is up fifty starters now so he must be having nightmares. Pinzaara ran on okay late after finding slamming doors twice the run home, while Mosse was okay and just a pass mark. Nothing in this field is a G1 sprinter outside New Zealand and in fact maybe even G2 unless the track was a bog as then the form is meaningless wet track stuff.
