Passing Shot was too good at set weights in this G3 3yo feature with the colt winning his fifth race today at start number fourteen. He led then trailed before getting off near the home turn then surged to the lead at the 200m before holding on narrowly albeit well. He clocked 1:10.79 which was the slowest 1200m time on the day. The runner up Red Striker came with big strides late for second and the filly has come back super this campaign. The Australian bred Mighty Maverick ran on stoutly for third and has very good scope for the rest of this season and beyond. The filly No Tricks caught the eye late too and has a stakes win in her before the end of the season. Los Vargas is speedy and was swamped late while Sheez Flawless was not too bad and is one for next time. The same could be said for Flaming when she starts next. The disappointments were Smashing that had a horror run wide and may be better left-handed and Fully Funded that had a wide passage too and the overland effort took a toll. The winner Passing Shot is more tradesman-like in he has speed and can lead or take a sit plus sprinting looks his forte now. Red Striker is a filly that can really unleash a sustained and potent finish. Mighty Maverick has scope galore while No Tricks is a leggy filly with upside.
