This Listed even for 3yo's only drew a mediocre field at best and no surprise then the winningest horse coming into the race, the Australian bred Tellall, prevailed easily at the finish by a length and a half. He had won his two prior outings easily too so scored the hattrick today and clocked 1:29.49 for the 1500m whilst carrying the topweight of 58.5kg. The winners and where they came from in race order were co-leader (three off the inside), led (one-off the fence and half a length ahead), fourth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), sixth (eighth-off the fence and eight lengths from the leader), third (one-off the fence and one and a half lengths from the leader), challenged (two-off the inside), third (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader) and eight (eight-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). Tellall was sent up second the outer early and lodged a bid turning for home before taking the front at the 300m and then beating this lot comfortably at the end to make it three wins in a row as a 3yo this season. He is nominated for the NZ Derby (2400m) so being tried over ground is coming but first he will tackle a G1 mile at Trenthan mid-January in the Levin Classic. Second home was the maiden filly Helsinki that now has been placed in five of her six starts. She raced handy the inner and kept coming once worked off the run home. Third home was Fleetwood Maca that came into this third up after winning her last start and now has a Listed placing on her resume after racing fifth and very wide and then going up third turning for home and reaching second briefly. She was very game and was also ridden by an apprentice today. Edge Of Wonder ran a sound fourth beaten two and a half lengths after racing eighth the outer and he has clearly improved since his maiden win prior to today. Iffie Shows ran on okay from sixth the inner and then there was a gap back to the sixth finisher in Il Affare, who ran on the last bit from the rear duo the inner midrace and turning for home. Tango Love fought on wider out from tenth on settling and the Australian bred Grip ran on late from eleventh turning for home. The rest battled or weakened in the main with perhaps a forgive to Montre Mio and even Amber Attack at $70 that was warming up very late from last turning for home. This was not a strong field overall and contained a lot of untapped 3yo's so in a Covid year this was sub-standard but forgivable in the main for most of the runners.
