The winner of this Listed 3yo over 1300m event at set weights and penalties event was the Australian bred Need I Say more. The gelding raced third in a gap on his own before going up the outer across the top then reached second four-off the inside turning for home. He then wore down the leader and reached the front 25m out to score by just under a length and clocked 1:17.88 and carried 58kg. The winners and where they turned for home were second (three-off the inside and half a length from the leader), seventh (four-off the inside and three and a half lengths from the leader), third (five-off the inside and half a length from the leader), led (one-off the inside and a length ahead), second (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fourth (six-off the inside and half a length from the leader), fifth (eight-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), second (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), seventh (six-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader) and eleventh (ten-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). It was the sixth win from eight starts by Need I Say More and the Listed win today goes with an already achieved G2 win this season and three G3 wins (one as a juvenile and two this season). He has won the majority of his races from in front or outside the pace but his last two wins have come from racing deep handy and on the outer handy so he is not one dimensional. His two defeats have been a close up fourth (at G2) and a tiring sixth (at G1) and both came behind Aegon, which was unbeaten at those two points but has since had his colours lowered in Australia. Need I Say More does handle dry and rain-affected footing with two of his wins coming in Slow7 and Slow8 respectively. Second home today under 54kg was the filly Babylon Berlin, also Australian bred, that led up and was run over the final stages and she seemed to find the 1300m a tad too far. She has come up well this preparation and will get her opposition off the bit and under pressure a lot more times in the future. Third home was the fresh up filly Cornflower Blue that at her last outing had run third at G1 in the 1000 Guineas (1600) at Riccarton last November behind Kahma Lass. She raced fifth on her own and then improved wide near the home turn and reached fourth at the 300m before getting to third with 50m to go. Her improvement to come looks a given and the stablemate of the winner has a wide range of options from this point onwards. She is the true takeaway from the race. Fourth home and beaten almost two and a half lengths was Opalescence that raced a chasing second and was third turning for home and fourth at the 50m. Next home was El Tirador that raced fourth the inner and only battled the run home to be beaten almost four lengths. Moana was next home beaten over six lengths and last home was Holyhead beaten over eight lengths. The top three all look to have more wins in store and the top pair look like sprinters only at this point whereas the third finisher is bred to get middle distance and has the most upside.
