The winner Serious Satire of this G3 1200m 3yo filly only event has that quality stamp about her from an obvious will to win to being untapped up to a range of distances. Serious Satire is an Australian bred filly by the quality sire More Than Ready and is out of the Zabeel dam Zarzuela, so the cross is proven gold. The filly settled midfield on a strong pace and it helped when she got eased centre track the run home that her detonation response was lethal. She got up the closing stages to clock 1:09.75, which on a day of some solid times stood up nicely in comparison. It was her second win from just three starts and in actuality she should be unbeaten. Serena Miss ran a better race as expected and she boomed home from the back with the winner to be beaten half a length. She is a big bodied and tall filly so should enjoy the mile later this Spring and maybe middle distance over summer. Strata Lady was the bravest run and she should have probably won all things being equal. She was fresh up and got taken on in the lead savagely only to kick clear the run home, so to be bombed the last 15m and be beaten just over half a length was admirable. The stablemate of the winner in No More Tears was a sound fourth beaten a length after racing close throughout and she too has some upside. Maritimo was sound too but did get every conceivable chance throughout while the good looker Love Triangle was running on well late and is a name to remember once the trips get longer. The two attackers that almost certainly cost Strata Lady the race, as they just kept up a relentless challenge throughout, were Platinum Express and O’Dianne. They finished seventh and eighth respectively beaten three and a half lengths with O’Dianne the bravest as she was three-wide doing overtime. Bella Court looked a next upper while Sally’s Mustang was not disgraced. The maiden having her second start in Bellissimo finished eleventh beaten just over five and a half lengths and she has scope for sure and should be odds on when back to her rightful grade. Nahema can be forgiven after an awkward start and then became fired up and got onto heels but was noticed warming up the last little bit so will keep. She is from the same stable as the winner and fourth finisher, so trainer Stephen Marsh has an army of talented fillies. It is safe to assume the 3yo filly depth in New Zealand this season, as it almost always is, does have superior depth to their male counterparts. Serious Satire could end up the best 3yo in the country of any sex while Serena Miss and Strata Lady will get their share of stakes success this season. No More Tears and Love Triangle have scope galore while O’Dianne and Bella Court have upside too. Bellissimo is a maiden on the rise and Nahema can be forgiven today for future stakes class events.
