This G3 3yo mile looked to be a field lacking much depth at all with just a handful at best of scope involved. The winner Lincoln Blue loves the wet ground and was far too good after sitting outside the leader then swimming clear to win by almost two lengths and clock 1:40.12. It was his second win in seven starts and he has never been out of the money on slow or heavy footing. The colt was capturing his first piece of blacktype and more is likely to come especially if he can find rain-affected footing again. Rayas came home powerful for second after getting back last and the filly enjoyed the wet underfoot conditions to grab some valuable blacktype for her broodmare days. No Fuss Guss ran a brave third after racing wide and third the whole way and was going to finish second until near the line. Enchanting Secret also sat wide fourth and fought on well to maintain that position so it became a matter of handling the footing and not how runners got ridden that was the key today. Hello M’Lady the second favourite fought on for fifth after drifting back then improving closer in before the home turn. Maraini the favourite was keen in the lead and once headed by Lincoln Blue the run home tried to fight on but floundered in the underfoot conditions and sixth was his lot. Storytime was okay for seventh then a gap appeared to the plugging away pair of King Kane and Gobuyit. The rest got beaten huge margins. Lincoln Blue looks to have upside and has the versatility of being able to swim. He has not finished worse than fourth in his career so far. Maraini can be forgiven. Just how relevant this result is looks debatable as too many runners that could not swim a bit flopped and those that liked wet ground actually ran above their ability due to that.
