The track presented at Riccarton was nothing short of disgraceful for all the money spent on repairing it and the addition of extensive sand-slitting with most trainers voicing their utter disapproval to the media in print and on the television and radio. It made for some very unusual racing and results let alone the margins and manner some got beaten. The Listed 3yo filly feature at least saw the quality rise to the top but it was more through superiorly than anything else. The first two home Consensus and No Tricks were over three lengths ahead of the third finisher Belle Miraaj. Consensus sat wide with cover and then made a run near the home turn before taking the lead at the 200m. Her only threat at this point was No Tricks that had stalked her throughout trying to get the last shot. The toughness of Consensus with a solid core of racing came through and she outfinished No Tricks the final 50m. Belle Miraaj ran a sound third while the noted wet tracker Choice kept coming for fourth and confirmed how tricky and testing the footing really was. Platinum Command was not too bad late while La Veuve battled on. The rest were well beaten or never looked likely at any stage. The winning time of 1:38.35 was actually the fastest mile time run on the day and a staggering seven and a half lengths superior to the Listed Open Handicap run following this event. Consensus and No Tricks have more wins in store for sure as does Bell Miraaj while Choice on wet ground will more than pay her way. Platinum Command has more wins ahead too but more so in her rightful class. The track made the results all day dubious and the form meaningless, as the footing was an eyesore and not want bettors should ever be asked to wager upon.
