No winner came from further back that fifth all day at Riccarton on the biased heavy footing plus the inside lanes were a massive advantage too. The nine winners turned for home in this order during the day starting with a leader then a third, second, third, fourth, fourth second, fifth and fourth. This Listed 3yo filly mile was won by Showemup by three-quarters of a length in 1:44.44 for the mile after she trailed third the inner and moved into an ominous second turning for home. She took the front at the 300m and went clear before holding on too well to record her third win in nine starts and achieve a first Listed win. Showemup had been Listed placed twice before today so was due and she really adores wet ground. Grand Soleil a maiden down from the North Island ran a game second and was still coming on the line taking an eternity to wind up. She had been G2 placed up North over 2000m so the mile today was a tad short but she tried ever so hard and looks a one batting stayer best when put as near the lead as possible knowing she keeps going. Dopntpokethetiger led up as expected but once headed at the 300m weakened to finish a distant third while Nikita sat back then was improved wide across the top and was grinding away to get fourth with 50m to go. Red River Rock was a distant plugging fifth but is still a maiden. Residential the favourite was a disappointing sixth beaten almost ten lengths after sitting second the outer and showed she despises wet footing. Shirley Maude was clearly away awkwardly and last plus unbalanced her rider with the filly never ever getting into contention. The rest got beaten big margins at the line and could either not handle the grade of testing heavy footing. This was not a strong field at all and the gelatinous footing plus blatant track bias made a mockery of the form and results all day. Almost certainly you get a totally different result on decent footing but still overall this was not a deep field at all.
