This Listed Open Handicap ended up just an eight-horse field and two of them are nowhere near this grade and finished tailed out accordingly. Tommy Tucker under the clear topweight of 60kg won easily to record his fourteenth win in forty-five starts. He was in form and had carried 60kg in his prior two starts to today as well for a Listed win and a G3 second. The 8yo gelding has won on all types of footing and from 1250m up to 1600m but was beaten a nostril flare at his lone 2030m outing, also carrying 60kg. He trailed the leaders on the inner and once worked off turning for home drove through to lead at the 250m before asserting his superiority. The winning margin was two and a half lengths and the time 1:43.67 was faster than the Listed fillies mile race prior by just over four and a half lengths. Bloodstream was big for second after losing a couple of lengths at the start and he kept coming gamely so is aching for middle distance again. He did get 7kg from the winner for some perspective. My Chino was a sound third after moving up into that spot wide across the top. Boots ‘N’ All got fourth on the line after racing fifth and moving wide too across the top. Absolut Excelencia was wide then went up second the outer after 400m before challenging across the top and leading turning for home. Once headed at the 250m he was fourth still at the 100m and only lost that sport right on the line to be beaten all up just over three lengths. Son Of Maher has been poor of late and ran another shocker when sixth beaten ten lengths and the other two were outclassed. This was a poor Listed field lacking any semblance of depth and the best horse won but the runner up once at middle distance can probably turn the tables.
