The winner at Listed level over 1000m was Wekaforce, which won by a neck in 56.31 and carried 54.5kg, after racing in the trail the inner then coming through to lead at the 150m. The winners and where they came from were led (on the fence by a neck), eleventh (five-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), sixth (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), eleventh (nine-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), led (one-off the inside and four lengths clear), fourth (on the inside and length and a half from the leader), third (three-off the inside and a long neck from the leader), ninth (five-off the fence and four lengths from the leader), fourteenth (six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader), led (a neck and one-off the inside) and fourth (one-off the inside and length and a half behind the leader). The three winners that led in the eleven-race card were either on the fence or one-off and three other winners were third (one) or fourth (two) and were on the inner or no worse than three-off. The other five winners came from sixth (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader) all the way up to fourteenth (last and six-off the inside and four lengths from the leader). Wekaforce ran a $2.60 clear favourite and was winning his seventh race in twenty starts and today was his first Blacktype win from nine attempts with a couple of seconds the best he had shown prior. The 5yo mare had come down from up in the North Island to join the local yard of Terri Rae and in nine outings she has won four times and placed four times. The runner up was Australian bred mare Kiwi Ida that ran home stoutly from second last on settling under the topweight of 60kg. Third home was Sensei, also an Australian bred, which carried 59kg and unleashed from last (eight horse field) and was beaten less than a length. Puysegur, also an Australian bred, raced handy the outer and fought on for fourth beaten less than three lengths. Nellie Bly ran on well once into clear air for fourth and was beaten three lengths. Don Carlo sat outside the leader and tried hard to finish fifth beaten just over three lengths. Morweka set the pace and weakened once headed the final 150m to be beaten almost four lengths. Fibonacci plugged away to be beaten just over four lengths and was not defeated too far considering he was last at the 200m. This was not a strong field but the right three filled the main berths and they were three of the four runners that carried more than the minimum of 53kg that the other half of the line up had. The first three home would all fail midweek at G3 level (either against all comers or just fillies and mares). Interestingly the fourth and fifth finishers today (Puysegur and Nellie Bly) would run third in the Open Sprint and fourth in the fillies and mares event respectively at G3 midweek
