This G2 Open Handicap mile saw an easy win to the favourite Hypnos that raced sixth the inner then got off the across the top before surging through two-off the run home and he led at the 300m. The 5yo gelding was clear at the 150m and ended up winning by a length and a half and clocked 1:36.14. The winners and where they came from on the home turn were eleventh (eight off the inside and four lengths from the leader), fifth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), fifth (five-off the inside and a length from the leader), fifth (five-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (two-off the inside and a length from the leader), ninth (one-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), sixteenth (on the fence and six lengths from the leader), led (three-off the inside and a neck in front), tenth (eight-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), seventh (six-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), fifth (one-off the inside and length and a half from the leader) and second (five-off the inside and neck from the leader). Only one leader won at all of this meeting today so the run on types had a field day. Hypnos was winning his fifth race from twenty-two starts and after today he now has a Listed win, a G3 win and now a G2 success. He tried Australia as a late 3yo but was found out three times badly and returned home to much easier depth and more manageable opposition. His five wins are joined by seven placing of which five of them are seconds so he is usually there or thereabouts at the finish. Tobilicious ran on strongly from second last on settling and he hit the line hard once angled the widest at the 400m. He was ridden by an apprentice in a Stakes race too it should be noted. The 5yo gelding has tackled G3 races twice before today and been poor in both beating one home in one and a couple in the other. Third home was the second favourite Communique that ran on well from ninth on settling and this 4yo mare actually reached second at the 200m but lost that position on the line. Vigor Winner the Australian bred was fourth but distant being five lengths behind the third finisher but ran an honest race after settling well back and being wide across the top. He reached third at the 200m before wilting the close stages. Lightning Jack ran a clear third favourite in this and after trailing the leaders fought on once through and into clear air but had every chance to be fair. Beneficial ran on for sixth after being thirteenth and held up turning for home but was beaten over seven and a half lengths. Picture Me Rollin was next home beaten over eight and a half lengths but was found to be lame in the left foreleg post race. The rest got beaten over ten lengths and as much as over twenty-four and a half lengths. A lot of runners that made a move midrace wide stopped the run home as the track was rather tricky all day and this was not a genuine G2 strength field. The closest an on pacer got to the finish here was fifth from the trail so this was a run on finish like every race bar one in the twelve race card.
