The winner at Listed level of this 3yo filly only event over 2000m was the $1.40 pop Atishu and she once again proven superior. The filly was winning her fourth start in a row this season having in five runs total prior been placed four times. She sat last and then once angled the widest turning for home unleashed to be sixth at the 200m then surged to lead over the final 50m. Such was her strength late that the winning margin in the end would be almost two lengths and she clocked 2:02.99 and has now won her last two Listed outings combined by almost nine lengths. The winners and where they came from on the home turn were tenth (eight-off the fence and four lengths from the leader), twelfth (four-off the fence and six lengths from the leader), led (four-off the fence and half a length from the leader), second (two-off the fence and half length from the leader), eighth (four-off the fence and three lengths from the leader), fifth (seven-off the fence and three lengths from the leader), tenth (eight-off the fence and four lengths from the leader), fifth (three-off the fence and two and a half lengths from the leader), led (five-off the fence and a neck in front) and fifteenth (five-off the fence and four lengths from the leader). Atishu this year and campaign has had five runs for four wins and is now a dual Listed winner. Whether what she has been beating is serious 3yo or filly form is hard to gauge as much of the stronger North Island form has been markedly exposed in Australia. Once again today she was ridden by the apprentice Kozzi Asano and he now has scored a hattrick on the filly. Second home again was Exquisite Pearl with the also North Island filly now having run three seconds in a row. She raced a distant third on settling and improved wide across the top to home turn and fought well to the line. Atishu well and truly has her measure but to what degree that filly is superior is still to be determined as these are very soft kills for the North Islander. Third home was Larpower also ridden by an apprentice today in Kin Kwo and she fought on after racing second the outer plus her rider dropped the whip at the 350m. Fourth home was Town Cryer and this North Islander was ridden by the apprentice Wiremu Pinn and she led and was let run along plus she seemed to have her rivals gasping turning for home then got bloused by the winner the final 50m before wilting. She was beaten just under three lengths at the line. Fifth home and beaten just over three lengths was Showemhowitsdone that settled down third last and was wide from the 800m and was sixth deeper across the top. She fought on okay to be fifth at the 100m beaten just over three lengths. Sixth home was Gone With The Wind that raced fifth the outer mostly and fought on fairly to be beaten just under four and a half lengths. Next home was Arrowtown at $73 after racing fourth the inner and then being seventh across the top and she was beaten just over six and a half lengths. This maiden filly has since won her maiden coming back to 1800m. Eighth home was the clear second favourite Yolo (only other runner at single figure although she was paying $7.70) that had prior to today finished fourth twice at G3 in stronger fields than this in the North Island. Today she never seemed comfortable in the Dead4 footing and after racing second last the outer she improved wide across the top and came up fourth deeper turning in but never ran on and was beaten over eleven lengths. She may be a wetter track filly as her form does tend to suggest at this stage. The late season form of many 3yo's is misleading in New Zealand as most of them that have travelled have been well beaten in Australia putting a huge question mark on how good really is the 3yo depth. How good Atishu really is or could be is still very much an influx position as too many of her age and sex have been badly beaten in Australia when tackling more depth. The jury is still out although most of the evidentiary votes are in.
