This G2 mile under WFA conditions saw the mare Supera blow away her rivals second up after getting the worst trip in transit. The winners and where they turned for home in race order were twelfth (five-off the inside and five lengths from the leader), fourth (four-off the inside and two and a half lengths from the leader), third (five-off the inside and a length and a half from the leader), second (one-off the inside and a length from the leader), fourth (three-off the inside and a length from the leader), eighth (four-off the inside and three lengths from the leader), third (four-off the inside and two lengths from the leader) and fourth (on the fence and a length and a half from the leader). The track was a somewhat very off Dead4 today as incredibly on this known heavily biased towards leaders and on pacers venue not a single leader won all day and that is unheard of plus the closest a winner came from was third. Supera sat back and wide then crept closer deep across the top before striding up third wider turning for home two lengths behind a known leader that had been handed this race on a platter so far. She did not shirk the task in hand but in fact grabbed it with both sets of her hooves. The 5yo mare sustained her surge momentum and in fact increased its power to lead at the 50m and then gapped her rivals late to win by over two lengths. She clocked an ordinary 1:36.60 for the mile, a sure sign the track was off like all times throughout the day, and was scoring her seventh win from fifteen starts and her second success at G2. The Mitigator led up as usual and kicked away turning for home but was picked up and dropped the final 50m. Tiptronic was last away and in the rear duo the inner midrace before working off turning for home and running on well late to get third the final 5m. Consensus was third the outer early but pulled her block off so went up second the outer a length back after 400m and then was left flat footed when they sprinted turning for home. She wilted a tad late and lost third late. Hay Tiger raced fourth or fifth the inner and was fifth one-batting and in a gap at the line while Hinerangi was weak from the trail and ended up sixth beaten over eight lengths. El Coolio has won just two races and was outclassed while Back In A Flash needs a bog clearly too even keep in touch. Supera embarrassed this lot after having the hardest trip and was second up too, so it is stunning she is still to win at G1 (four attempts for a second, a third, a fourth and seventh). This race has since provided two G1 winners in the runner up The Mitigator and the third finisher Tiptronic. It shows the vagaries of racing as she can put away The Mitigator and Tiptronic with brazen ease but they both have a pinnacle win on their resumes and she does not yet.
