The G1 over 2000m at WFA saw every runner steered wide the run home and many were paddling in the awful track presented so the race pattern was totally altered by manmade bias. This is the biggest raceday of the season for the Waikato RC and they have two G1 races so to present a track like today beggars belief and the Good3 given out was 100% false. This race only had four nominations earlier in the week so the club cobbled together five more runners and one of those won it in the 3yo filly Valley Girl. The reputation of the older WFA horses was demolished in this race as Valley Girl buried them to win by almost a length in 2:03.74 and record her third win in six outings and clearly her most valuable. She is on a Derby and/or Oaks path but this win today versus the older horses is worth much more than either age group success could do in New Zealand so just maybe the ATC Oaks in Sydney is now a real target. The filly was sixth across the top and urged like almost every runner in the footing that was taking an eternity to dry out on a warm day. Her finish was too much for Stolen Dance that for once settled ahead of her arch Kawi and beat him home. Unluckily for Stolen Dance, which was unbeaten here before today, she did not get that elusive G1 win despite conquering Kawi at the finish. Kawi was a grinding third and overall was disappointing so again whether he is a true 2000m galloper rears its head again but the way Te Rapa was today almost every horse has an excuse. Breaking Dawn should have been totally outclassed but finished fourth and was the closest in of all runners after sharing the pace mostly. Vavasour disappointed overall but she still boxed on despite never ever looking at home in the tricky footing. Soriano ran on late from well back but the way the track was she never could win and will be retired to have her first foal. Nymph Monte was outclassed and Ronchi after sharing the pace stopped badly to finish second last. Nashville finished last and never looked a hope with his backrunning style. Valley Girl struck a blow for the 3yos and made the older WFA horses look suspect at least in New Zealand and possibly overrated as an entire group. Once again this race and the entire meeting has a huge asterisk due to a 100% false track reading officially reported and then after the downgrade everyone saw that the Te Rapa track was in fact abysmal and manmade biased.
