The talking point of this entire meeting was how a Good3 track was reported and allowed to be released as official in the morning and who did so and why when the track was chipping out markedly from the outset due to over-watering. Warm weather and no rain for days but this track was downgraded to a Dead4 so needless to say the track for a dual G1 day was a disgrace and the rail was out 4m anyway to make matters worse. An inquiry has been ordered but the crux of the problem is the false reading reported as a fact and released for hours not just locally but to any international audience that took the Te Rapa meeting. The Waikato Racing Club had a totally false track reading today and someone put up the number and someone confirmed it and let it go up onto the radio and television and NZTAB website and the NZRacing website proudly bought too you by the NZTR. It was 100% false and people are wagering money so enormous damage has been done in both trust and credibility. The track put up for this Waikato RC meeting stole all the headlines and makes the form look suspect such was how the track behaved and the image it created did harm to the sport. This G2 3yo filly race over 2000m saw the winner sit wide in the open the whole way and win easily namely Mime with the sight of almost every runner being steered to the middle of the track farcical. A summer day and no rain for the week and Te Rapa is cutting up like a clod-festival ploughed paddock that is sand-slitted was a sight for sore eyes. Mime was huge but sitting wide was not a negative when a track is like this plus many runners did not go a yard in such absurd summer footing that was a manmade disaster, It was the third win in twelve starts for Mime and she clocked a very sedate 2:06.45 that was almost three seconds (18 lengths) inferior to the G1 held later in the day at WFA. Promise To Reign ran home strongly from the back down the outer having just cleared maidens prior so is a filly on the rise. Capella was brave after being back and wide then saw her running home well but making up vast tracts of ground was nearly impossible on the way the track was racing. Coldplay ran another solid race but can never seem to find clear air early enough to get going near the home turn and try to wind up stoutly as she has shown she can do. Fame Seeker was only swamped late after sitting outside the leader and leading at the 300m, which has continued a run of sound and luckless races for a while now. Bella Court was not too bad at all after being back and wide then going forward deep across the top and she will relish a roomier and less biased track. Fanatic was not too bad the final stages while Duchess Of Kate boxed on fairly and Cool Tart was warming up late down the outer. Alarmist was fair but Maytra Dee was outclassed and is best back in maiden class. Preetha Varma led and stopped and Megawatt was poor. There were some tidy fillies in this race and many Oaks contenders but how you can trust the form of this race and the entire meeting in fact the way Te Rapa was so manmade biased is the concern. The race had no true pace and getting too far back ensured you could not win plus the middle lanes were cluttered as almost every runner steered there in a summer meeting where no rain had been seen for many days in a row. The visual was so damning and the trust rubber band between track information handed out by race clubs and stewards and the bettor that expects the truth is well and truly snapped.
