TERANG
Race 3 | 5. The Adige
Interesting race where all the horses in the market have been drawn disgustingly but I do like this bloke resuming after a one and done debut prep. That first run was on a heavy track where again he was trapped wide but he kept working towards the line. He is a horse who's going to need some distance but in saying that the speed map suggests no monster speed so Meech can roll forward and dictate pace. For that reason the 1200m isn't a concern and after a couple of nice jumpouts I think he will run well and improve as well into the prep.
Race 6 | 8. Golden Age
Due for a little bit of luck and step one getting a nice barrier is a Keeps knocking on the door their concern is doesn't ever get the nose down. It's great run on Maui kept a wood belt this field but again he are the fines in excuse or he runs down to the level. The fave is drawn horribly which helps! The 1400m is no drama and the bigger track should also be too his liking, so there are no excuses today and Golden Age will be very hard to beat.
Race 7 | 6. Ultra Blue
First up form doesn't read well but they are better than what it appears on paper. Is drawn really well today to stalk the speed. If that’s Hughie alone he can sit OSL, if Masked pushes up from Gate one he can sit one out one back. This distance is as short as he would want it so jockey will need to make sure there is speed on way or another, Pang does take 2kg's off his back meaning he does get in with no weight. Has won his only race here and the good track is a plus.
TAREE
Race 5 | 1. Surpasser
Was pretty good on debut o in a rice that I think will rate well going forward. I think race experience coupled with the blinkers on should also mean a fair bit of improvement race to race. The step up to the 1250m wont hurt and I think in a race that we've seen a lot of them before he has the most upside and will win.
Race 7 | 5. Think We're Here
I thought it was OK last start in a tougher race when backup to the 2000m so back to back over the mile and a quarter I'll like in this grade. He is drawn next to the horse I expect to lead in Monty Be Brave and he can stalk the speed knowing it's a huge question mark over that horse at the 2000m up from 1500m. A little toe into the ground won't hurt him but a drying track would be even better for this bloke. I think he finds his race today!
Race 8 | 2. Navy Steel
The 1000m up to the 1300m does concern me a little bit but the way that he hit the line in town in a highway last that makes me think he needs the distance as long as as he is fit enough for it now. Speedy Henry is the obvious danger and he is drawn really well to control the race so Bullock won't want to get too far back but his main priority will be to make sure he has cover from the tricky gate. He really runs a bad race, he handles all conditions but a chopped up track would maybe even be better and I think with a little luck he'll be too classy to end our day on a high!
GUNDAGAI
Race 1 | 10. Romanticism
Former Victorian horse with a new stable now who trailed really well in readiness for this. She's drawn well so expect to be prominent in the run unlike last start when spat out the back from a wide gate. This is much easier than those couple of Victorian runs and I think as long as it's close enough to the favourite and leader Cap Design, this girl has been placed here for a reason and will be classy enough to salute!
KILCOY
Race 4 | 1. Casterly Rock
And really well on the Gold Coast last star in a race that is tougher than this. Drawn perfectly to have an almost identical run not far from the rails if not hard up against the paint. He is a tough fit horse and the soft track most certainly is to his liking. Chance with wolves is the class danger but I have a huge doubt on it running a very strong 1900m a concern I don’t have with Casterly Rock.
Campbell Brown
TERANG
Race 4 | 14. Princess Sakiko
Drawn barrier one again today. Was badly held up for a run on the fence last start but when froggy got clear savaged the line. But to little to late and ran second. Only bad luck will beat it today at $2.20.
TAREE
Race 3 | 5. Bellevue
Trialled up well first up for new stable and was ordinary last start. Should find this easier and should significantly improve at $3.
GUNDAGAI
Race 4 | 7. Bourbon Queen
Improved sharply last start to win in a small field. Rise to 1400m trip should suit. Tactics will be interesting to see if they go forward again. I suspect they will. $5.
KILCOY
Race 6 | 5. Decarbonise
Maps to do no work today, is hard fit, and back in trip should suits. $3.60.
HOBART
Race 2 | 2. Ilovethistown
Melbourne horse now with Adam Trinder. Ran in some stronger maidens than this. Has won its trial leading into today. $2.80.
