2026 Ladbrokes Devonport Cup Day has arrived, with a bumper 10-race program on Wednesday.

The $125,000 Devonport Cup sees a capacity field with Craig Newitt going for his 10th victory in the race.

The first of the day is scheduled for 12:27.

Race 5 – 2. Vino Novello

Vino Novello is being targeted at the Launceston Cup, so he’ll need to win most of his races leading in to ensure a start in that race at the end of February. His late sectionals first-up behind Mazzini were outstanding, and he looks ideally suited getting out to 1650m. Races well here, and hopefully the small field will enable Jabez Johnstone to settle close enough to the speed to be too strong late.

Race 2 – 2. Bayside

Bayside was arguably the run of the night first-up on a biased Launceston track, and I’m forgiving of the run in Devonport where he drew barrier 10/10 and raced without cover. Low gates are worth their weight in gold from the 1350m starting point and barrier 2 enables Lauryn Bingley to stalk the speed and use a turn of foot in the home straight.

Race 4 – 7. Rebel’s Girl

An interesting maiden where most of the field are resuming, and a few have trialled quite impressively. One of those is Rebel’s Girl. She compromised her only race start when she was slowly away, and she was immediately tipped out. Both recent trials have been dynamite, and this Cup Day maiden has clearly been a target for the stable. We’re shopping an e/w price, and I’ve actually marked her favourite in the race.
