Day one of the Magic Millions Sales was headlined by a $2 million colt by Frankel being purchased by Coolmore’s Tom Magnier in a syndicate with star trainer Chris Waller.

The colt was presented by Segenhoe Stud for Fairway Thoroughbreds and attracted plenty of bids, sparking excitement across sale.

Barry Bowditch, the managing director of Magic Millions, spoke to SENTrack & RSN's Giddy Up about that huge sale and hailed kudos on the breeders John and Dan Camilleri.

“Good fireworks, obviously $2 million for a Frankel colt, fantastic stud, obviously a lovely horse,” Bowditch said.

“That's what John and Dan Camilleri do this for - to send one of their best mares over to England to be covered by one of the world's best sires.

“For everything to play out the way it did, it's well deserved. A lot of time and effort went into that.”

Also catching the eye from the Day One sales were six yearlings sold who are by retired gun Anamoe, with two selling for at least $500,000.

The Magic Millions managing director believed that the yearlings by Anamoe “sold well”, however there will be “plenty more to come” across the next week.

When reflecting on the sales from the middle of the market – usually the Magic Millions Sales greatest challenge – Bowditch was super pleased with the sales.

“(It was) very solid,” Bowditch admitted.

“I thought even down towards the lower end, there was good bidding below $200,000.

“And that's something we've worked very hard to engage with. I was pleased with how that played out.”
