McDonald’s strong push for two Caulfield runners

Trainer Clinton McDonald has given a strong push for two of his runners at Caulfield this Saturday.

Two-year-old Streisand resumes in the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for the fillies after a promising debut preparation where she ran second twice at Flemington.

McDonald believes the Magnus filly will have race experience on her side when she takes on highly-touted debutants Angels Fury and Jadzia who head the market.

Streisand was just touched off by Calamari Ring at Flemington on Champions Stakes Day and is ready to claim her maiden.

“I think it’s definitely an advantage,” McDonald said on SENTrack & RSN’s Giddy Up regarding Streisand’s race experience.

“Angels Fury has trialled up very well here and so did Grahame Begg’s horse (Jadzia).

“But they’re going to have to be very good to beat Streisand. She’s got that race day experience, it’s going to be hot, she knows what it’s about and these are babies are going there for the first time.

“I’ve got that advantage and I’m happy to have it.”

Streisand, who will be ridden by Ben Melham from barrier 11, is currently rated the $8 third elect with Sportsbet for Race 3 at Caulfield.

Another of his talented fillies is three-year-old Miss Ole.

She was no good when resuming at Geelong on January 3 but McDonald is expecting much better things second-up in the Group 3 Manfred Stakes (1200m).

“Awful, very disappointing,” McDonald said of her first-up run.

“I think there might have been a bit of trainer error there, I’d been very soft on her. She’s a very competitive filly, I’d worked her on her own for most of that preparation.

“She raced inside horses and was probably not mentally switched on and a little bit ring rusty.

“She had a nice trial on Monday, everyone saw it. We didn’t send her out to break the clock, we just said ‘bounce, squeeze, and give her a squeeze the last 200m’.

“That’s normal Miss Ole. I think she will bounce back pretty hard on Saturday, the race sets up well for her. There’s a lot of horses first-up.

“If she can be at her best she will be very hard to beat.”

Miss Ole, also to be ridden by Melham, is rated a $10 chance in a very competitive race which has Salty Pearl as the $5 early favourite.

McDonald also has Ahha Ahha ($5) in Race 10 but is tossing up if he will run her against Lindsay Park’s star-in-the-making Touchdown over 1600m in the Melbourne heat.

The stable will also saddle up Yulong debutant Turbo Saint ($11) in the Blue Diamond Preview (1000m) for colts and geldings.

McDonald would have his $100 Stable Mail money on Streisand to win into Miss Ole the place.
