Voss: Do you sack a player? Why Dragons got it wrong
By Andrew Voss
I am gonna put cards on the table, I hate it. I can’t stand that we’re in a situation that we are following the principles of the EPL and you just get rid of coaches.
Three rounds into the season and Manly change their coach, Dragons now seven games in. I know you will cite the losing streak, but I don’t think this is good business.
Separate from any issue, it doesn’t sit well with me - what a crap job it must be.
Todd Payten, if you see the smoke signals out of North Queensland. One win then the loss last week, he is now back in their club’s sights and I’m not hearing good things there.
If the Cowboys go through a bad run – look out.
An overview of changing coaches. Is this the answer? Lose matches and bang, change the coaches, is that the way we’re going? Like the EPL and the ridiculous situation where some clubs have three coaches in a season?
The Dragons have the most unreliable group of players I can think of in recent times.
There is no stat that is the unreliability stat but it is my perception of the Dragons that they have players who week to week let you down.
They can play a good game maybe once a month.
Valentine Holmes, we are just talking football, this is not personal, but in percentage terms; if 100% is his best then at what percentage is he playing at the moment? If you’re at more that 25% then I don’t think you’re watching.
Holmes was a great signing but who takes responsibility for his form at the moment?
Do you sack a player? No of course you don’t but he deserves to be dropped. But the world we live in at the moment, you drop player, they go to the manager, manager says he’s not happy and they go for another club and he’s released.
Jaydn Su’a, in a week that he announces he is leaving the club and not taking up an option. For an ill-disciplined act, that must have made the coaching staff feel sick - he is now suspended for three games.
Moses Suli will break your heart in games.
They have issues around the halves obviously. Fullback - Tyrell Sloane, looked a world beater a few years ago, how often do you see that form? Can you rely on him? No, they’re unreliable.
I don’t know what they do. I really don’t.
I heard the boys talk about Michael Ennis and Michael Cheika, Dean Young? I don’t know.
If Flanagan’s dismissal is the conduit to success and turning things around, then what happens to the board that re-signed him for two years?
Do they hand their keys in? Do they say they're releasing Shane Flanagan from his duties effective immediately and we are also standing down because we appointed him?
How about accountability? It's sadly lacking from individuals at the Dragons.
Some players need to stare down a barrel today and say 'I have not been anywhere near my best and this bloke has lost his job'.
