Watson: Bevo's killjoy cohorts are to blame for constant rule changes

Get off your soapbox, Bevo.

Because you and your killjoy cohorts are to blame for constant rule changes.

You collectively created a quagmire of defensive despair.

We went through the most uninteresting, uninspiring, unwatchable period of football while you coached your Dogs - and I'm not blaming you personally - but let's not forget why these rule changes were introduced and how we got here.

The game was being destroyed by the coaches. What we have today is the response.

It's not about the broadcasters wanting to insert more ads to increase revenue. It's because all of the great features of our game were being systematically stymied and eliminated because no one, no one out there had any space to move.

The game is not perfect. It never will be. But I'd still rather be counting goals than ball ups and tackles and one-percenters.

This is the problem. The coaches drove the game to the point where we had to introduce these rules and we had to change the way the game was being officiated and we had to change the way the game was being played.

How often were we talking about the fact that there wasn't a highlight being produced week in, week out with our game because everybody, 36 players, were in one part of the ground, they couldn't move the ball.

Maybe it has gone too far the other way. It's not perfect, the game is not perfect today, but for anybody out there to not believe that some of these changes had to be made, you weren't watching the game for a long period of time.

I'm sure the broadcasters don't mind the fact that there's been more goals scored and they can insert some more ads. I'm sure they're not concerned about that, but it wasn't of their doing. They didn't drive the change in the game.

The change of the game and the change in the game was driven by the people that were concerned about the state of the game.
