"Infinitely more talent": The teams under the most pressure in Round 8
By SEN
SEN’s Sam Edmund has named the five teams under the most pressure heading into Round 8.
Edmund’s pressure meter ranks teams from 1-5, with number one having the most pressure on them and the most to lose heading into the round.
Check out Edmund's pressure meter below.
1 – Adelaide
vs Port Adelaide – Adelaide Oval – Friday
“3-4, annihilated by Brisbane,” Edmund told SEN's Dwayne's World.
“Port Adelaide - a few weeks ago, this would have almost been considered a walkover for the Crows. Not anymore.
“They've won five of the last six against Port, and if they are any good and if they are going to amount to anything this year, they have got to win this. The Power look rejuvenated, three point loss to Hawthorn and then they dismantled Geelong.
“But Adelaide, at 3-4, this is already a highwire act for the Crows. I know they've got a bit going on off the field, but they have to be winning this game. They have infinitely more talent than Port Adelaide.
“They should be winning it.”
2 - Gold Coast
vs GWS Giants – People First Stadium – Sunday
“Who are they, where are they, what are they.
“It felt like this was the year for the Suns to finally vault up into legitimate premiership contender. They still might, it's still early, they are 4-3 but they're a long way from premiership contender right now.
“They've lost three of their last four. Their only win was a narrow one at home against battlers Essendon. They simply must be beating GWS at home on Sunday night.
“The Giants have beaten the Suns in their last eight meetings, and 19 of the last 20. That is actually staggering, but the Suns have just got to win this game.”
3 – Western Bulldogs
vs Fremantle - Marvel Stadium – Friday
“This might be seen as harsh - yep, they've got injuries to star players, but they've lost their last three by 40, 75 and 66, and as Bevo says, no one feels sorry for you or shows sympathy.
“They've just got to find a way somehow. Can they hold the fort and stop the bleeding until the cavalry arrive over the hill. Rory Lobb, Tim English, James O'Donnell, Tom Liberatore - they are big names, but they've got got to dig in, admittedly, against a high-calibre opponent in Fremantle.
“They've just got to stop the rot.”
4 - St Kilda
vs Carlton – Marvel Stadium – Saturday
“This could easily be Carlton at four for obvious reasons, but they are cast, so we will wipe them.
“St Kilda have loftier ambitions. They've recruited for it, and they've traded for it, and that's now, which brings us to this clash against the Blues.
“This has been anticipated since the Saints plucked Tom De Koning and Jack Silvagni from Carlton in the off-season. Imagine how galling it would be for them and their supporters if they dropped this one to the battling Blues.
“St Kilda are 3-4 too, so there is a big difference between turning 4-4, or sinking into the mire further at 3-5. It's a big weekend for the Saints.”
5 – West Coast
vs Richmond - Optus Stadium – Saturday
“At five, I've got West Coast
“They've just gotta win this against a weakened Richmond team. There are 15 players on Richmond's injury list at last check. Eagles are at home, they've copped three maulings, they are favourites - how often can we say that.
“This is there chance, don't stuff it up.”
