Eddie McGuire's message to record-breaking Pendlebury

Former Collingwood President Eddie McGuire couldn’t be more excited about Scott Pendlebury’s record breaking game.

The Magpies midfielder reaches game No. 433 against West Coast at the MCG on Saturday, which will officially crown him as the all-time V/AFL games leader, overtaking current holder Brent Harvey on 432.

While some in the media are sick of hearing about Pendlebury’s big day and everything that goes along with it, McGuire can’t get enough of it.

Now having such an honour next to his name, McGuire even thinks that Pendlebury should one day receive a statue outside the MCG, with the legendary Magpie playing his 274th game at the venue, which is streets ahead of the next best in Steele Sidebottom on 230.

“Tomorrow's just going to be a wonderful day. The sun's going to be shining. We're going to get the great weather,” McGuire told SEN Afternoons.

“We're up against a rival who have been a great combatant against Collingwood, including playing in the 2018 Grand Final when Scott was captain.

“West Coast are going to be coming out breathing fire, and we're going to fill the MCG again.

“I mean, there's a statue across the road for Michael Gudinski, my old mate, because of the amount of people he put into Rod Laver Arena.

“Well, nobody has put more people or had more people watch an individual athlete at the MCG than Scott Pendlebury.

“He deserves everything he gets tomorrow as far as the athletes are concerned, as far as I'm concerned.”

Asked what he’d say to Pendlebury if he got the chance ahead of the big game, McGuire delivered a heartfelt message to the 38-year-old.

“I'd say thank you, Scotty,” McGuire said.

“Thank you for never being a moment's problem.

“Thank you for never having your contract in the media.

“Thank you for always turning up prepared.

“Thank you for always putting the team in front of everybody else.

“Thank you for embracing my family.

“Thank you for being a great friend.

“Thank you for being the epitome of a modern footballer.

“Thank you for etching your name in history alongside our famous football club, Collingwood.

“That would be what I'd say to him.”
