Preliminary talks have taken place between Gold Coast and Jamarra Ugle-Hagan’s management over what a new deal would look like for the forward.

While Ugle-Hagan’s place on the Suns list in 2027 is not yet guaranteed, as things stand he is likely to be retained despite an underwhelming start in Queensland.

The forward, who went 19 months between AFL games during his exit from the Western Bulldogs, has managed only three senior appearances this season.

Ugle-Hagan won’t meet the 12-game trigger in his existing contract to automatically earn a new one-year deal, but all parties are working towards a new agreement being reached towards the end of the season.

Despite a strong pre-season, Ugle-Hagan has struggled to play well consistently at AFL level.

He and teammate Mac Andrew recently caused a stir when they were filmed leaving a disabled toilet together during the State of Origin decider earlier this month.

When questioned both players insisted they had done nothing other than skip long able-bodied queues and no evidence to the contrary meant the club took no action.

Ugle-Hagan was last year traded to the Suns by the Western Bulldogs in exchange for pick 74.

He has played 70 games since being taken with pick No.1 in the 2020 national draft, including three for the Suns this year.

The 24-year-old has kicked 12 goals in seven VFL outings in 2026.
